Kitchens can be expensive. A basic kitchen renovation nowadays is at least 25K and it can go up from there depending how fancy you want it.
I have clients that ask me ‘How can we update the kitchen without breaking the bank?’ and this is what I tell them:
I know what you’re thinking, ‘what about just updating the appliances?’ The answer to this question is simple: NO!!! Think about it… If you get brand new shiny appliances, place them in a kitchen and don’t update anything else, the kitchen will look worse. Your outdated kitchen will shine ever more against those new appliances. If you want new appliances, you’re going to have to update line item 2 and 4 as well.
I want to go back to line item 4… I hesitate with this one a little because it only works if your kitchen has a good layout. I do not recommend it if your kitchen cabinets look like a maze. I’ve seen some pretty weird layouts in my day. If you have a kitchen that doesn’t flow well, take some time and invest in updating the entire room. Having a good flow will help resell value and a lot of headaches. Once you put those new countertops on, they are not coming off!
One last tip… Backsplash is always installed after countertops. If you love your countertops but want to update the backsplash then go right ahead, but if you despise your countertops remember to purchase the new countertop first then the backsplash.
Cheers to new kitchens,
